Raindrops

It's cold and rainy and ever-so-awesome outside.

Eden is tucked in bed, sleeping away. Hopefully long enough for me to get my thoughts down. And a picture uploaded!

We had a picture-perfect morning today. A cold rainy storm was blowing in, but not quite here yet, and the sky was bright blue with mounds and mounds of fluffy white clouds blowing by in the bright sunshine. I tucked Eden in the stroller all cozy warm and we walked down to the Post Office. (Boy, am I out of shape.)

Anyway, the goal of our trip to the Post Office was this hat, which is incredibly adorable and handmade by her Auntie Hilary. Isn't it the cutest? ('Course, these pictures don't really do it justice. You can't really see the cute little flower on top.)

So, she fell asleep on the way back, as the clouds were turning dark gray. The sun was warm, though, so warm I had to take off my jacket. I took the long way back, not wanting the walk to be over, and just as we turned into the complex, and pealing roll of thunder rocked the sky. Oh! It was glorious. The air was still warm from the sun, and I could see the front blowing in from the north. The thunder reminded me of a Colorado rain storm. A few more rolls of thunder as we strolled up to the house. I peeked into the stroller, and Eden was awake, her big blue eyes reflecting the sky in little pools of wonderfulness. It was still sunny out, so I pulled her out of the crib and we sat down on the steps outside, she slowly waking up and taking in the world around her, and I with my cheeck to hers, breathing in her soft baby smell and reveling in the cuddly togetherness of the moment.

We sat there a good 20 minutes. She quickly tired of the cuddling and wanted to touch the handrail, touch the siding, touch the stone stairs. Ooo-ing and aaa-ing the whole time. "Look at me," she seemed to say, "I can discover the world with my hands, now!"

All of a sudden there was a mad scattering of sound and I realized it was the splash of big, big raindrops hitting the leaves of the trees above our heads. We quickly ducked under the porch just in time for a sudden deluge of rain and hail, which was beautiful and cold and wonderful. Eden just stared at the sky. She loves outside so much. It must be wonderful to experience it all for the first time!

Later, after Daddy came home, we gave her cereal for the first time. Those pictures will come tomorrow!

Oh, she is sooooo precious. I can't wait to see her. What a wonderful day you had. I remember having lots of those times with Leah. With Susie too, but the emotion is different.

XOXO

Oh these early days are so great and so fleeting. Keep her close and cherish every minute and they pass so quickly. I know it's cliche - but soooo true.
