This morning Eden slept an hour and a half longer than she normally does, and when she woke up it was that slow, sleepy rise to alertness that I love so much. When she whispers baby babbles to herself and plays absentmindedly with my fingers.
Then, of course, comes the climbing! Over Mommy! Over Daddy! Hugs, kisses, babbles, coos. More climbing!
She likes to slap my belly. I don't blame her. It makes a nice, thick "twhack" sound, and usually results in endless giggles between her and I. (Her, because it makes a cool noise. I, because it makes me realize how much more walking I should be doing, and less eating.)
This morning, however, she discovered.....my BELLY BUTTON! Which was cool enough in and of itself. It was hilarious. She'd pick at my belly button, much like she picks at peas or carrots or other tiny food when she's eating. Then, she'd make smacking noises and lift her fingers to her mouth, and imitate chewing. Over and over and over. I couldn't tell if she was trying to eat my belly button or pick up the mole that is right next to it.
Do they have imaginations at such a young age?
Or was she really trying to eat my belly button?
